Along the Northumberland coast there are large square concrete blocks scattered on some of the beaches. They sit uneasily in their surroundings, but have weathered with time and the effects of nature. The Oak blocks, which represent these, have been cut to reveal the end grain, then burnt to create natural splits in the surface of the wood. They have been bound with several strands of wire.
